主要特点：调速精度高，变速范围大（速比可在1：1.4-1：7之间任意变化），可连续工作运转，运转平稳，性能稳定，噪音低，扭矩大，流量无级可调。但它的变速是需手动来调节，自动化程度不高，调速须在运转中进行，不可停车时转动调速手轮。它不宜用于可能超负荷或堵塞使用场合。
